Last Friday, the world was shook after Paris got hit by a series of devastating shootings, including one at a sports stadium and another at a concert. I recently came across an article where Richard Gasquet, who was inside the stadium when the shooting happened, described what exactly happened. There were explosions around the stadium during a France-Germany soccer match as part of a set of attacks around the city.
Arriving late to the stadium, Gasquet missed the earlier part of the match. Yet after he got there, he heard the sound of two explosions. At the time, Gasquet was in a box suite, so he was able to see what was happening in other parts of the city. After the third explosion, there was an evacuation, although many people opted to stay in the stadium. Gasquet says that he still plans on going to the ATP World Tour Finals in London and hit with Rafael Nadal next Sunday. Ana Ivanovic is also assumed to have been at the match, watching her boyfriend Bastian Schweinsteiger, who plays for Germany.
In response to the attack, the ATP has heightened security at the season-ending tournament coming up in London. Nicholas Mahut and Pierre-Hughes, the only French players who qualified for the ATP World Tour Finals in doubles, are currently discussing some ideas with the ATP to do something about the situation, anything from donations to just having players wear something on their shirts as recognition.
